HI SEC Wins Uppsala University Contract
Herlev, Denmark, January 4, 2006 – Uppsala University, a prestigious
university located in Sweden, chose HI SEC and its ThorGuard Management System to
secure the campus. Uppsala University is located 100 km northeast of Stockholm,
and is the oldest university in the Nordic countries – founded in 1477.
Uppsala University will install 464 Mifare Card Readers and five ThorGuard Management
Units. The system will operate on a SQL Database and has four client servers. 40,000
students and 6,000 staff will use the ThorGuard Management System each year.
This is the first part of a scheduled reinvestment totaling 2000-3000 new card readers.
Uppsala required its security management software to integrate with an educational
software platform, SESAM. Files and database information will be shared and copied
in a complex SQL database structure.
“Compatec AB, HI SEC’s partner in Sweden, was one of two vendors that fulfilled
all our mandatory requirements,” said Ragnar Ahlberg, ITSupport, Uppsala University.
“Compatec/HI SEC was the economically most favourable alternative, in spite of a
relatively high, but realistic cost for import of groups and access rights from
the University system SESAM.”
“HI SEC was chosen due to our genuine integration, our compliance to specifications
and competitive pricing, as well as dedicated efforts from our local partner, Compatec
AB,” said Jorgen Bo Krogh, International Sales Manager for HI SEC.
“I congratulate Compatec AB as well as all involved colleagues from HI SEC for a
job well done, and I am looking forward to working on the expansion of the Uppsala
project, as well as all other educational institutions under the frame agreement.
This is the beginning of an exiting future for all parties involved,” said Krogh.
The Uppsala project is the first direct result of a frame agreement which was agreed
upon in September 2005. The agreement involves 22 Swedish universities and other
educational institutions. HI SEC also provided realistic warranties regarding development
and commercial issues.
